For all the progress updates:
Book Progress Update: End of July 2026
Traveling took most of my time during July. I only processed 10 books this month, so I still have 90 to go. Starting August, I’ll try to go back to 1 book per day, but it looks like this part of the process will take until the end of the year.
Though I’ve made little progress on the book, it’s been a time for living some of its ideas: engaging with the world, living more boldly, and enduring the blows that eventually come from doing so. It’s a switch from the examined life to the lived life. Both are important. Think-live, live-think.
It reminds me of the words of Paul Kalanithi in his wonderful book When Breath Becomes Air, “If the unexamined life was not worth living, was the unlived life worth examining?”
As a side note, I went through my clippings and notes from Oliver Burkeman’s Meditations for Mortals and Four Thousand Weeks. I had forgotten how much I liked his books. Highly recommended.
That’s all for this month of slow progress but fast living.
